Schoodic Mountain
T9SD, ME
Trailheads, measurements, times, distances, and maps are all approximate and relative to the hike(s) as shown below.
Schoodic Mountain Trail
Route: Schoodic Beach Trail, Schoodic Mountain Trail
Trails were mostly dry and in good shape. Descended to Schoodic Beach (nice pond views), then ascended that side of the Schoodic Mountain Trail (very steep and rugged prior to junction with other branch of trail, then still a bit rugged, whereas the other branch was a bit more tame in the lower elevations).
Fantastic open summit that rivals many of the Acadia peaks in my opinion. Multiple nearby peaks caught my eye too, especially Black and Tunk.

Schoodic Bay
Looking southwest at Mount Desert Island from Schoodic Mountain
Directions to trailhead: From Ellsworth, take US 1 North to Sullivan, then take a left onto Route 183 north. Shortly after passing the ATV trail/old railgrade near a lowpoint, take a left onto Donnell Pond Road (displayed on some maps as Schoodic Beach Road). Take the main dirt road for about 2.3 miles, ending at the parking area. The Schoodic Beach Trail starts at the bottom of the parking area.
