The Parker Ridge Trail on the way to the Tumbledown peaks
Route: Parker Ridge Trail, Tumbledown Ridge Trail, unnamed trail, Little Jackson Trail, Big Jackson Trail, Jacksons Trail
Fantastic set of peaks! Lots of above treeline walking. One of the nicest sets of peaks I've been to in New England.
Ascended Parker Ridge Trail, hit the pond, then did a clockwise loop around the three main Tumbledown Peaks (the trail to the western bump is vague in places and the one that connects from near the summit of that one to the northern one is unofficial, but generally marked with cairns).
From the northern one, we followed the path along the ridge, then hit the Little Jackson Trail northeast of the pond. Soon after the sign, there is a right turn (toward a wet area) that's easy to miss. Thereafter, navigation was too much of a problem up to the Little Jackson alpine zone.
We then continued to Big Jackson - a nice walk on ledges and soft wooded sections of trail with views along the way, but the summit directional view was underwhelming after the 360 degree views of the other peaks. We then doubled back and took the Little Jackson Trail back down to the bottom of Parker Ridge Trail and to the parking lot.
