Looking down one of the old ski area lift lines
Route: Various old ski trails
For the second short hike of the afternoon, I headed up to Cumberland to Diamond Hill Park. I opted to make a beeline to the summit, following a footpath up an old ski lift line. While the summit didn't offer much in way of views, there were a few directional views from not too far below it.
Once at the summit, I dropped down the other side of the hill to check out some of the remains of the other defunct ski area, Ski Valley.
For the descent, I followed the ridge north, dropping down an open slope back to the base area. Overall, it was a pretty neat place to hike, considering the location - there are a bunch of trails winding around the rocky woods.

Directions to trailhead: From Interstate 295 in Rhode Island, take Rhode Island 114 northwest. A few minutes after crossing Rhode Island 120, Diamond Hill Park, complete with a large parking area, will be on the right. A narrow line of softwood trees marks the main access to the bottom of the old Diamond Hill ski area.
